Feedback: Autel Ultra VS Autel IM608 VS Autel IM508

Put together the users' feedback on the Autel comparison: Autel Ultra VS Autel IM608 VS Autel IM508.




Autel Maxisys Ultra Feedback / Test reports:
  • Autel Ultra- apparently does diagnostics the same as IM608. Only addon I see is battery analysis, inspection camera. Comes with scope included. The j2534 supports mega-can so the new Mopars it works. Tested.
  • I also have Autel Ultra. I traded my snap on verus in on it. Aside from what you mentioned before, there's ADAS, Shop platform for running your business, a nice scope, and loads of other capabilities to come with the expansions and updates. However the 608 is my workhorse. In the aftermarket repair world I don’t get very many new vehicles. Mostly 2015 and back. Usually one of these two scan tools covers the job.
  • I have the Maxisys Ultra and don't only use it for diagnostic etc. but also for installing sound systems in vehicles, it's the best tool ever.
  • Coming from the MS906. Autel Ultra was a huge upgrade and definitely worth it for my busy auto repair shop. So far, the scope has been pretty awesome and its abilities are more than enough for us. There is a little lost in translation issues we encounter and a lot of 'Chinglish but once you get over that, it's a powerful tool.
  • Autel Ultra lab scope is a fantastic tool for diagnostics. The extra large touchscreen is a joy to use and is easy to read outside in daylight. Battery life has been longer than expected at around 8 hours and charge time is fairly quick. If you need a 4 channel lab scope in your shop then look no further. The Autel Ultra does everything my Snap-On Verus does but it does it faster and with a larger screen. Accessories such as test leads, alligator clips and back probes are all neatly stowed in the rugged case.

Autel IM608 Feedback / Test reports:

Autel IM608 Success List:
1. Autel IM608 does 90% of keys in my experience of using it for over a year. It's a learning curve, not going to be easy diy but after some research, it’s a good tool.

Diagnostics can pull codes just like any other tool.. adaptions/calibrations – module programming 25% actually works.


2. Tested it mainly work with Ford, GM, Mopar (Dodge Chrysler) Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Mazda, Nissan and Infiniti, Honda and Acura, Kia and Hyundai, Alfa Romeo, Volvo, some Fiats, some Land Rover and Jaguar etc.


3. Program key about 200+ cars a month and Autel IM608 is my go-to with every single car.


4. Recognize Autel IM608 that will do the most and keep using it to its full potential.


5. I've done a couple thousand vehicles with IM608 already and have yet to come across any failures. I'm sure there will be one, but I also can guarantee if the machine can't do it wasn't designed to do it.


Autel IM608 is worth every penny. Works amazing and almost covers everything I need.



Autel IM608 Failure list:
  1. The j2534 lacks mega-can to work on newer Mopars.
  2. Cars I had no luck with are 15+ MB push to start, VAG hit or miss

In fact: ONLY the dealer can do 2015+ MB, that’s fsb4, no one but the dealership apart from Sprinter which is still FSB3 until 2018.
Bentley failed.
  1. Subaru smart key 2019+ all keys lost it won’t do!
  2. Not support Porsche Boxter.
  3. Air suspension on mb fails in auto mode.

Good to know:
Autel IM608 / IM508 also depends on the competency of the user, all the machine can do is do what your guiding it to do.

Autel IM508 Feedback / Test Reports:
1. I have the IM608. I traded in my IM508 to get it. The Diagnostics are way better in the IM608. The IM508 wouldn’t do calibration, relearn, or programming. Only scan and data. So the IM608 is my primary tool.


2. I was using IM508 for more than 1 year and now use IM608, particularly in keys subject does the same, only it takes a little more to calculate password in MB because its processor is slower, but keys does the same as IM608, VW is wonderful, I do everything in VW but you have to explore a lot, I definitely recommend it but if you have for a IM608 spend it on it, in BMW it’s great with due care.
